The 2016-2017 DeKalb Country Elementary Science Olympiad takes place Saturday, March 18, 2017, 8:00am–12:30pm, at Druid Hills Middle School, 3100 Mt Olive Dr, Decatur 30033.

Practice
Description

Sagamore sends up to 30 3rd–5th grade students to the DeKalb County Elementary Science Olympiad Tournament in March. Students challenge themselves to complete a variety of science events involving tests of knowledge and measurement skills.
Each student can choose up to 3 events (of about two-dozen) to participate in and can chose partners too. Examples of events include:
- Challenge (complete a task based on skills previously practiced): Metric Mastery, Mystery Architecture, Pentathlon, Picture This, Which Way’s North
- Knowledge (take a quiz about an event subject): Disease Detectives, Don’t Bug Me, Elements and Compounds, Grasp a Graph, Leaf and Tree Finder, No Bones About It, Rock Hound, Save Our Earth, Simple Machines, Starry Starry Night, Weather or Not, Wildlife Safari
- Bring or Make It (follow design guidelines to make something in advance or build a structure at the Tournament): Barge Building, Bridge Building, Can Race, Paddle Boats, Paper Rockets, Straw Egg Drop, Straw Tower, Water Rockets
